SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security protocol for establishing encrypted links between a web site and a standard Internet browser in an online search/communication. The usage of SSL technology ensures that all data transmitted between the web site and the browser remains encrypted.
After a secure connection is made, the session key is used to encrypt all transmitted data. The browser connects to a website secured with SSL (https). The browser then requests that the server identify itself. The server then sends a copy of its SSL Certificate, including the servers public key. Your web site information is secured with an SSL Key and the data being pulled from it is secure as well.
